43" x 54" Private Collection 100% cotton: marbled and dyed fabric, batting and back. Machine pieced, hand appliquéd and machine quilted, metallic thread.
This sailing compass controls the fabric collage of marble fabrics conveying a sense of the high seas with land in the distance. Not wanting to define much imagery in this piece, the small sailboat is the exception. Even the compass is only three quarters finished. The apparent random piecing of the fabric collage was well planned out on my work wall. It takes a long time to piece this style quilt because much of it involves simply studying the pinned up pieces and moving them around and around and around...
