Appliqués of Spring Tulips emerging from beds of English Ivy wreaths surrounded by marble fabric is set in a traditional manner . These flowers are the start of a new series of floral applique I designed in 2003. I left space in between each applique for fine quilting motifs to enhance the marble fabric background.
A butterfly adorns the center block. The marble fabric is wonderful to use for butterfly wings and I have used it in several quilts with ivy.
I machine appliqued using a technique called soft edge applique which allows for very small shapes to be sewn. Each set of tulips is different both in color and pattern.
The dense machine quilting shows off the quilting motifs and applique. The double fold binding is also marble fabric.
