marble ball
Martha draws from three decades of quilting to share with others the fine art of quilting, fabric marbling and the process of inner growth one experiences through creating a quilt. Below is a listing of lectures and workshops she offers. She is also available for consulting, selective commissions and private lessons. From 1992 to 1998 she lectured and gave quilt workshops on the East Coast, primarily in New England. After moving to California in 1998, Martha took a break from teaching and lecturing though she continued to make quilts.

Martha will resume teaching, workshops and lectures in 2006 and will accept bookings. Please contact her for details.
Lectures
Lectures are 45-90 minutes with a question and answer period encouraged at the end.

A Quilter’s Process-Martha talks about and explores those areas of quilting rarely discussed. She demonstrates that quilting is a process and a reflection of spirit. Many marvelous experiences can happen during this process of creation. Martha offers a new way new way to look at an age-old art form.

Marbled Quilts- Learn what a marble quilt consists of, the marbling process and Martha’s unique approach to using her marbled fabrics in quilts. The quilts range from traditional pieced and appliqués to abstract or pictorial quilts.

The Evolution of a Quilt Guild - Watching and working with a quilt guild that grew from a few dozen women into one of the largest guilds in New England. Martha talks about the process including the growing pains and benefits. Old ways meet new ways of doing quilts and the process of learning to be supportive and respectful of both methods.

What is a Quilt? This lecture is for those unfamiliar with quilts and the process. This is a simple basic talk on all aspects of quilt making. This lecture can be geared to specific age groups or interests.

The workshops can be 3 hours, full day or several days.

Martha will show how she machine quilts now and why. Students will learn to machine quilt if workshop is a full day or several days.

Random Scrap Piecing - Technique taught to create FLAT tops which can then be used to create original quilts or vests. Martha has been using these techniques for 18 years and has discovered many ways to use up scraps and not be tied down to a pattern.

Marbling- Martha has marbled cotton fabric for over a decade and incorporated them in her quilts. Learn about the marbling process with a live demonstration of marbling. She will also have marbled cottons and quilts to demonstrate her use of them in creating fiber art.
